Bread & Butter Wines Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Howell Mt Cabernet Sauvignon

This powerful and concentrated Cabernet combines notes of cassis, violet, dried blackberries, mocha and tobacco leaf with firmly-structured tannins and a broad, mouth-filling texture. Structured and balanced with an outstanding, long finish.

Sitting high above the fog line on Napa Valley’s eastern side, the Howell Mountain AVA is known for producing dense and commanding Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes for this wine were grown in a single vineyard with well-drained soils of volcanic ash and clay. Due to the elevation and positioning of the mountain, these grapes received long hours of sunlight followed by cool nighttime temperatures, which ensured they reached their full expression while retaining high acidity.

ABV: 15.7%

“This wine has a character of ripe black and blue fruit, pine needles and cedar wood. Full-bodied and dry. An array of chewy tannins with a bright acidity. Long mineral finish with notes of spiced oak. Try in 2023.” –JS, Nov 2021

2018 Vintage: “Linda Trotta makes this wine with fruit from a parcel on Howell Mountain, taming the fruit’s volcanic power with 20 months in French oak barrels (half of them new). At 15.7 percent alcohol, it is as dense and ripe as you might expect, but it is also elegant, with a quiet calm behind all the black cherry and zingy spice of the acidity. It finishes on oak tannins with enough ripe fruit to balance them.” – Joshua Greene
