One of my favorite parts about the holiday season is hosting friends and family, which I know is a task that tends to be overwhelming for some. I wanted to put together a simple yet fun & festive tablescape with light bites paired with a batched cocktail to share an example of how holiday gatherings can be beautiful while also being stress free!

When I was planning the tablescape, I wanted it to be something that highlighted the colors and textures of the holiday season without being overwhelming. I started with an olive green table cloth, then lined the middle of the table with burgundy candlesticks as the main attraction. As a nod to the holiday season, I scattered small jingle bells and faux pine branches throughout the candlesticks for a simple and affordable touch.

I topped my thrifted Christmas plates with holiday plaid napkins and tied some burgundy velvet ribbon into bows to set on top to add a fun & feminine touch! Aside from the thrifted plates, all of the items I used for the tablescape are linked below!

Now onto the fun part – the drinks & the bites! To keep things as simple as possible, I served a pre-batched cocktail and three different light bites alongside some of my favorite Bread & Butter wine varieties. I have found that as long as you have a variety of options for your guests to enjoy served with really good wine – everyone is happy!

Batched cocktails are one of my favorite ways to remove stress the day that you are hosting. I prepped the Holiday Sangria the morning of the party and let it sit in the refrigerator all day to really infuse all the flavors, then as soon as my guests arrived I poured them a glass and topped it with some fun garnishes! All you need for this sangria is a handful of ingredients and your favorite pitcher & you have yourself a cocktail that will leave all your guests asking for the recipe!

Holiday Sangria

Ingredients

  • INGREDIENTS (serves 4):
  • 1 bottle Bread & Butter Red Blend
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 4-5 star anise
  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks
  • Garnishes: sliced orange, rosemary & star anise

Instructions

  1. To a pitcher, add Bread & Butter Red Blend, orange juice, sugar, orange slices, apple slices, pomegranate seeds, star anise and cinnamon sticks.
  2. Stir well to combine, then cover and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours or up to 12 hours before serving.
  3. To serve, pour into a wine glass and garnish with an orange slice, fresh rosemary and star anise – enjoy!

Serving light bites rather than a full meal takes a large amount of stress off of you as the host. Whether you are preparing them all or asking everyone to bring one to pass, the three recipes below are my tried & true for the holiday season as they tap into seasonal flavors while only requiring a handful of ingredients and preparation. The Creamy Goat Cheese & Jam dip is served warm with fresh slices of French baguette, the Everything Pigs in a Blanket are a crowd-pleaser that always hit the spot, and you can never go wrong with a charcuterie board that leans into winter flavors.
