Summer calls for a chilled white wine that’s bright, refreshing, and easy to love – and according to Food & Wine, not all Pinot Grigio is created equal. Thankfully, Bread & Butter’s California Pinot Grigio just got the nod in their June guide to finding “the good stuff.”
Writer Chasity Cooper explored Pinot Grigio from Italy to France to California, and singled out our California-based wine for its rising popularity, standout quality, and unmistakably fresh, fruit-forward style.
FROM BLENDER GRAPE TO SUMMER STAR
Bread & Butter Pinot Grigio is having a moment – and it’s not by accident. Once overlooked as a blender grape, this varietal is finally getting the spotlight it deserves.
“It’s exciting that a grape that was previously used as a blender is now being celebrated as a single varietal,” says Linda Trotta, VP of Global Winemaking.
“Our fruit is picked at night and during early morning hours when temperatures are low… A long and slow fermentation is carried out in stainless steel at cold temperatures – promoting varietal development and flavor retention.”
– Linda Trotta, June 2025
That thoughtful approach results in a wine that’s crisp, clean, and bursting with citrus blossom, white peach, pear, and that signature Bread & Butter smoothness.

A RISING FAVORITE
According to internal data cited in the article, our Pinot Grigio has become one of the top three white wines in the Bread & Butter portfolio – and it’s also the fastest-growing. We increased production by 22% just to keep up with demand.
So why the surge in love for PG? The answer is simple: it checks all the boxes.
- Lower alcohol.
- Vibrant fruit.
- Easy to sip.
- Ready to pair.
- And perfectly chill for summer’s most casual moments.
“We believe consumers are finding specific occasions within their overall drinking to choose Pinot Grigio – welcoming guests with a glass, pairing appetizers, or serving Pinot Grigio at a summer party,” adds Trotta.
WHY CALIFORNIA PINOT GRIGIO STANDS OUT
While global wine consumption is slowing, Pinot Grigio is thriving – especially in the U.S. In the $11+ category, Pinot Grigio sales rose 11% last year, with California producers like Bread & Butter leading the way.
“It’s pretty mind-blowing to me… that a drug store would carry something that isn’t Chardonnay or Cabernet,” said Caitlin Vartain Ward, Bread & Butter Marketing Director in the San Francisco Chronicle.
We’ll drink to that.
